I've gotten lots of compliments on my Arkansas Razorback T-shirt dress that I refashioned from a basic thrift store t-shirt. I had shopped online for t-shirt dresses and months and could believe they sell for around $60! (Arkansas T-shirt Dress)

 

I came across several University of Arkansas t-shirts at Potter's House Thrift in Fayetteville for under $1 each and my imagination went to work.

 

Supplies:

• Large T-shirt

• 1 1/2 Yards of fabric

• Elastic

• Matching Thread

• Bust & Hips Measurements

• Optional- Ruffled Trim, Rhinestones, Waist Sash

1. Lay t-shirt flat and cut sleeves and neck collar off.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 



 

 

2. Take bust measurement, divide by 2 then add 1" (<--this is the measurement for the top of your tshirt)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

3. Measure down from top of the shirt to where you'd like the skirt to connect at. Make a cut straight across.

(Don't forget to add extra for a 1/2" hem line!)

 

 

3. Sew sides of t-shirt together to make the top of your dress. Sew at a slight angle with a zig-zag stitch.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

4. Lay out your fabric for your skirt. (Make sure its folded in half, creating 2 identical pieces for yours skirt) Take your hips measurement add 8-10 inches then, divide by 2. Take that measurement and mark your first line at the top of your fabric, starting in a couple of inches on each side (This allows for the flare.)

 

 

 

5. Measure down 21" from the top of your skirt and mark. This is where the bottom of your skirt will be.

Drawn a line to the other side as you see in the picture.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

6. Connect all lines to create a skirt then cut out.

7. Sew your skirt pieces together along the sides. (right sides facing each other)

8. Hem the bottom of your skirt. Then turn inside out.

9. Fold over the top of your fabric 1/2" and sew to create a casing for your elastic. Do the same for the top of your t-shirt.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

10. Sew your top to your skirt by inserting the top of the dress, inside out, into the top of the skirt and sewing together. (I know this sounds confusing but its not so I'll add a link (step 16) showing this process.)

11. Thread elastic through casing at the waist and top of your dress.

12. Ta-Da! You have a new one-of-a-kind gameday dress!

 

Additional Ideas: Create a sash to tie around your waist with the left over t-shirt material or add straps to the top for added support. Add a ruffles trim to the bottom of the dress for that extra girly look. Or Add rhinestone to the Razorback! So many easy variations for this look! More Razorback Dresses will be posted soon!
